For the most part, I don’t think modern cartoons like the She-Ra reboot or Steven Universe are really much worse than cartoons were back in the day, it’s just the people who make them now seem to have a bizarrely inflated sense of importance about themselves and their god awful shows. You didn’t see the people in charge of the 80’s Carebears cartoon being interviewed about their show and talking like it was some kind of hugely significant cultural zeitgeist. Though I do miss the days when you could just have a villain be Evil Space Hitler from Planet X without needing a tragic relatable backstory or a redemption arc tacked on to the character.
